Room data sheets are structured overviews of the requirements that are specific to certain types of rooms. They are usually developed during the briefing (or architectural programming in the US) phase of a design and assist in defining the requirements of the client for each type of space. They are used to create specifications that assist contractors and designers be aware of what is expected from each space and how they can ensure that the proposed solution meets the requirements of the client.

Typically, room data sheets are developed by architects and other members of the design team such as engineers and interior designers. They are work in development and may be as a living document until a client has given their approval to the final architectural plan. The information from the room data sheets can be synchronized to the Revit model through a process known as backfilling. This method of verification helps to ensure that the room’s data accurately reflect the requirements in the final documents and be used to identify any the differences.
